This is my second year as president of the retirees of the AFT- 6157. It is indeed an honor to be the president, following our great leader and founder Bill Jacobs. It is in his legacy that I serve as the president of the retirees.
After the Rodda Act passed in 1976, allowing our faculty to bargain “wages, hours and working conditions”, I organized a campaign to obtain the signatures of at least 1/2 of our district’s 800+ full- and part-time (as they were called then) faculty.
The teaching career of Alice Gosak in English as a Second Language, spanning the years 1980 – 2006, gifted San Jose City College with an experienced multiculturalist, who was deeply sensitive to the experiences and needs of our immigrant students.

Hawaii, the enchanting islands, is always a wonderful place to visit. For my birthday (no numbers please!) my daughter Anna gave me 2 tickets to Hawaii. Wife Sandra and I landed in Honolulu on Oahu for a 10-day visit.
SJCC Library lost one of its most effective academic leaders in 2002 when Russ Fischer retired after 36 years. This past March Russ Fischer died a few weeks after his wife Ruth had died. Russ was 86.
