Introducing Kathy Jasper

Hello Fellow Retirees:

I am looking forward to serving as the secretary on AFT6157-R’s Executive Board.  After retiring last December, I joined our local AFT Retiree group to work on issues that affect particularly part-timers, and to enjoy social activities with likeminded people.  One part timer issue is the Windfall Elimination Program (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO). Further information is contained in this newsletter.  I hope we can enjoy some social activities together soon.

I have spent most of my career in education.   I worked as an ESL teacher at EVC for about 20 years.   I have served in several union positions, including president of my Adult Ed local, where I was the president for 11 years.  I still represent our union at the South Bay Labor Council.  I am married to Rick and have a daughter, Melanie, and a son, Adam.

In retirement I have gotten to play more!  I play bridge a few times a week, mostly online but also at in- person tournaments, and socially with friends.  We also love to travel.  This year we have been to Reno, the Shakespeare Festival in Oregon, the Seattle/Vancouver area, and Spain.   I am fortunate to have family nearby and to get together with them often.

I hope to get to know you better.
Kathy Jasper
