SJCC Retiree Phil Crawford wins Several Medals in Powerlifting

SJCC retiree Philip Crawford competed in the National Championship Powerlifting in Laughlin, Nevada, on August 15, 2026.  Phil competed in the 80-84 age group, in the 110 Kilo weight class (maximum weight).  He set world records in Squat, Deadlift, Bench Press. total of 3 lifts, and the feats of strength Strict Curl. The meet began at 9 a.m. and concluded at 4pm in Harrah’s Ballroom.  This is not Phil’s first rodeo as he has set world records before.

Phil is still teaching as an associate faculty member in SJCC’s Political Science Dept. and is the longest serving faculty member in the more than 100 year history of SJCC at 56 years.  He was also a former police sergeant with the San Jose Police Dept.  Prior to his wins at the Powerlifting Championship, he also won the Tri Santa Cruz Triathlon in the 80-84 age group for the 5th year in a row a week earlier on August 9, 2026.  Two weeks prior to the Tri Santa Cruz, Crawford won the Solano Beach Triathlon (aquabike 80-94) for the 4th year in a row.  Phil believes in the aging axiom “use it or lose it” and for the proposition that there is more to retirement than a rocking chair.  Congratulations to Phil.  Thank you for encouraging all of us to stay active.
